Save a Human: A NOTE FROM MAISIE

The poor woman walked up to my run, looking so sad, so alone. I noticed she walked with limp and used a stick to walk with. My heart broke. I wanted so much to help more, much more than the others I had seen. She stuck her fingers through the wires. I noticed her tears. I knew I had to do something to make her let me help her. I wagged my tail and licked her fingers. She opened the door and I jumped in her arms.

Within a few minutes I was in the car with her. Once at home, I knew I'd spend my life making her happy. I never wanted her to be as sad again. I'd do whatever it took make her smile everyday, to keep her from hurting...

That was three years ago. I went to a special school to learn to be a service dog. I help her remember to take her medicine, go get help when she falls and take her things she can't get for herself. I even watch her little girl, keeping her safe. She couldn't make it without me. I know because she tells me so. She isn't sad anymore; she smiles every day. I'm thankful I was able to save a human.
